"The Sixth Hour"
ORIGINAL PAINTING ON CANVAS
acrylic paint, pencil, wax pencil on canvas
Final finish coat is satin varnish.
Image size 30” x 24” x 1 1/2”, wired for hanging.
The "Sixth Hour" depicts the emotions of the time that Jesus Christ hung on the cross as He called out "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34)
I hoped to convey that God covered the suffering Jesus with the cloak of darkness. I see this as a tender act of love and care.
Looking closely you can see bits of the scripture peeking out from the layers of paint. The brush strokes and pencil marks give a tumultuous feel the the event.
